I am your host, Amy-Lynn Denham, and I am really excited about today's topic. But first. Before I jump in. I want to talk to you briefly about my Facebook group, because it is free and it is jam packed full of helpful marketing tips.
We have events where we do live trainings. And best of all, it is stuffed with amazing entrepreneurs, just like you, people who are at the very beginning stages of their businesses, people who are somewhere in the middle and some superstars that I am really excited to watch grow even further. So why would you want to join another freaking Facebook group?
Right? Honestly, because this isn't just [00:01:00] about learning marketing from me, because to be honest, I only know one slice of that marketing pie. It is also about learning from your fellow entrepreneurs, people who are out there trying things in a real time and reporting back like, Hey, here's what works.
Here's what doesn't work. Here's what I learned the hard way. Here's something cool, you might want to use. It's a place where you can come and ask questions. And where you can celebrate your wins because to be honest, celebrating our wins is where I am at. That is where we all should be at. And that brings me to today's topic. Today we are talking about mindset. Even deeper. We're talking about the belief system that is operating above and beyond everything inside your business. The inspiration for this episode actually started with my latest blog post, which was all about AI proofing, your online service providing business. I like to speak to my fellow online service providers and freelance entrepreneurs as often as possible, because I really love to lift up those kinds of businesses and see people flourish in my industry. That being said, I know that this podcast is for all entrepreneurs, for everyone who feels overwhelmed with their marketing or with their business
and who's trying to build a business that supports the lifestyle they dream of. So instead of diving into that blog post in this podcast episode, what I want to do is focus [00:03:00] on the underpinnings of that blog post, because at the very base of everything, the way that online service providers can AI proof their businesses is to adopt a flexible mindset and to pivot their businesses with this changing online marketplace. It's not about resistance.
It's not about overcoming. It's actually about being fluid and moving with the changes as they're happening. I'm going to break down that blog post a little bit in this episode, so that we have the context to have this larger conversation. But even if you're not an online service provider, Trust me this episode is for you.
This episode is all about the mindset that you bring to your business and how the smallest seemingly smallest shift can make the biggest [00:04:00] change in your overall success in your business.
So AI and online service providers. I mean, that's a big topic and it has had a lot of fear wrapped around it, right? People are concerned that they are going to get phased out that, you know, "I'm a social media manager. Somebody's going to come along and just chat GPT all of their social prompts
and there's going to be some sort of an AI thing that just generates their actual visuals, and I'm going to be useless." First of all, not true, but we'll come back to that. Copywriters are concerned that, you know, someone's just going to jump onto a chat GPT style thing, type in what they want for a blog post and boom.
There it is. Just post it up on their site. Good to go. Um, is this a real concern? People have absolutely. Is there a shift happening in the online service marketplace because of AI 100%. I'm not going to be here trying to, you know, make it all [00:05:00] fluffy and be like, don't worry guys. Like AI is going to phase out and it's just a blip.
Everything's going to be fine. That's not true. That's not true. We are moving in a direction and we don't really know where it's heading. We can guess. And we probably should try to predict where we're headed with this. But we're not going to stop it.
The conversation we should be having is not, does AI pose a threat to online service providers? The question we should be asking ourselves and a conversation we should be having is how do we get flexible in our businesses as online service providers. And that is where we can get into this bigger conversation of mindset, because really, if. If you're not bringing the right mindset to this situation, if you're not bringing the right mindset to your business, you're not going to be able to rise to this new challenge because that's what this is.
This is a [00:06:00] new challenge. I really believe that resiliency in the online marketing world. And in all forms of online service, providing boils down to two things for entrepreneurs.
One waiting for businesses to realize the pitfalls of AI, because it ain't perfect. And two shifting your business model, to incorporate AI as part of your offerings. If that sounds scary. Bear with me. Pivoting is essential for success in any business. Essential and anybody who has run a profitable business, whether on the small scale or the large scale will tell you that there are stumbling blocks.
There are roadblocks, there are things that are going to slow you down and you can either stop and give up and walk away. Or you can figure out how to get around it or over it or under it, or however you need to work with whatever that thing is, that's slowing you down. And if [00:07:00] you can figure out how to pivot.
You got gold. You're going to be the one that stands out in the crowd. You're going to be the one that stands the test of time. Because you are the one that figured out how to work in this changing environment. That's all this is. This is a changing environment. And you think back to providing any kind of copywriting services 30 years ago, there was no doing that online.
There was no writing blog posts or articles for online magazines and newspapers. You were, you know, sitting in a chair, in an office inside of a newspaper headquarter doing it there. It was a very different world. So to even create this industry of online service providing, especially in the world of marketing and stuff, That had to happen as a response to a changing marketplace. Things stabled out for a little while. That was kind of the status quo we got used to that people started building businesses [00:08:00] around that. Hello that's me? Right. I am people. But now it is shifting again, and it is those who are ready, willing, and able to take the correct mindset at this who are going to survive this shift.
It is those people who are ready to level up to flex with this change that's happening around them. Those are the people who are going to see success. As we move into this AI era.
And so my advice to anyone who is.
Working in online service providing: copywriters social media managers, inbound marketers like me. Whatever it is that you're doing. My advice is to learn to work with AI. Learn to incorporate it into your business model.
Now I am not saying to just be like, I will just AI all of your [00:09:00] things. I will chat GPT every blog post, I will turn into a computer. No, I am not saying do that. What I'm saying is to make it an option within your business. Um, you can play with this play with how you want to make your packages, make your offers. Test it out.
See what works, see what your clients are interested in. , what you can do, is offer a lower priced option where AI assists you. This allows you to have a more flexible portfolio of options for your clients.
So, what you can do is actually offer a package where you incorporate AI assisting, which means it takes you less time to do the work. And so you can charge less money. Now I've seen some people just incorporate AI into their online service business, but not reduce prices, [00:10:00] even though it's saving them massive amounts of time.
They're like, look at me, I'm going to capitalize on this and make tons of extra money.
And that may work. It may not though. But what you can do is set yourself apart from everyone else by making the offer and incorporating it in there and being ready for this shift. Boom. You just gave yourself a corner of the market where a lot of people were not willing to go. They were like, I am going to do it 100% myself where I'm not doing it at all. And I'm going to have to shut the doors and close my business.
They had a whole different mindset, a very rigid mindset that wasn't able to be fluid with this changing marketplace. You however, took a very special slice of that pie and that slice is going to grow.
And this is a flexible mindset. This is a growth driven mindset. This is when you step into your business, whether you're an online service provider or not, no matter what it is, you do, you step into your [00:11:00] business with a mindset of I've got this. I will pivot what I need to, I can flex with the changing marketplace. I will change as I need to change in order to bring this business to where it's going to be. Where I need it to be where I want it to be. You bring that mindset to things you change the game entirely. Entirely. Flexible and growth driven mindsets are freaking huge to your success in your business. I have helped many other businesses find a success, but inside my own, I have had a struggle with reaching the level of success that I want to see. I have had a struggle with getting to a goal that I have and surpassing it, and then getting to the next goal. Why. Mindset. I am going to get vulnerable here.
I'm doing it because why else be here if I'm [00:12:00] not willing to do that? You know what I mean? So I'm getting vulnerable here and I'm going to tell you about my biggest mindset struggle. And before I do, I want to get underneath of this and let you know that when you don't have a good mindset, it is usually if not always, because underneath it you have a toxic belief., there is a belief you're carrying that is holding you back. And in order to really make that mindset shift, you have to ditch that belief and replace it with a better one.
We can't just read books and listen to podcasts about changing our mindset and boom. There it is. We've done it. You know, no that doesn't work. There's a reason why just putting sticky notes of love yourself all over your house.
Doesn't actually work unless you're doing the work beneath it to actually change the belief system that is causing the mindset. So [00:13:00] for me, my mindset problem was around the idea of money success, how much money I could make in my business. And money might be a scary word, but we're talking about business here and we're talking about marketing and, and growing businesses.
So we really need to be able to talk about money. I had a number in my mind of what I could make. And. It was based on the most I'd ever made in a year. And I was like, okay, so I could maybe make X percentage more than this number and this number wasn't big. It wasn't like, oh, I'm in a seven figure business.
It wasn't even in the six figures. And that's like a shameful thing to say on a business podcast "Oh my God. I don't even make six figures. Why would you listen to me?" Right? I've made other businesses far more than that. But the point here is that in my own business, I had this mindset [00:14:00] around money. That was very unhealthy. And it was based on a belief that I can only make so much money based on my health status. And based on the many different things that I kind of had, I was juggling in my life at the time.
My mindset was focused on that.
My belief. My belief was that I can't make more than X number of dollars in a year because I can't work more than X number of hours in a year. Because I need to allot this much time for my health, this much time to exercise this much time to like relax. And I mean, these are still health-related, but I was trying to find a work-life balance.
And I said, well, in order to have a work life balance, I can never make more than this much money. And so what did I do? I limited myself immediately. I limited myself in what I felt I could accomplish. And so I limited myself [00:15:00] in the opportunities I actually went after. Instead of being flexible in what those opportunities could look like for me. Can I go take a nine to five job paying $160,000 a year in a high stress environment where I actually after work over time, but probably don't get paid for it,
cause I'm going crazy corporate? No. I can't do that. That actually is outside the realm of possibility if I'm going to say healthy. So for work-life balance reasons, no, that is off the table, but that doesn't mean that I need to lock myself into low paying gigs or anything in that negative realm where I was functioning at one point in time, because my belief was, I can't do anything bigger than this done end of story.
So my mindset was just, here's an opportunity. People would send me opportunities. Hey, I heard about this. I'm like, oh, I'm definitely not able to do that. [00:16:00] Why not? Like for some reason I was not asking myself, Hey, why not? You know? So when I'm looking at this article that I'm writing about AI proofing your business, I'm asking people why not?
I see people like, oh, I'm never going to survive this AI thing. Why not? I can't incorporate it into my business. Why not? You know, maybe it's not going to be whatever the first thing is you think of, you know, the first thing I think of is, oh, You know, to make X number of dollars I need to work X number of hours. Maybe not, maybe not.
Maybe I can still make X number of dollars, but I work fewer hours cause I set my business up differently. Because I worked in affiliate marketing because I launched a course because I did something different.
And so if you walk away from today's episode with only one thing, If you walk away with only one thing. I hope that you walk away [00:17:00] with this. Your mindset matters. And your mindset is based on the belief system you carry about your business. So, if you are struggling and you are feeling like "I can't do this, this isn't working.
I'm bashing my head off a wall." If you're feeling like that at all in your business. Check your mindset. And then check your beliefs. What do you believe about yourself, your business, the economy, the world, the way life goes for you, how things unfold for you? What's possible what you're capable of. Really get down there and ask yourself those questions.
They're hard freaking questions. But we need to ask those questions in order to be able to replace the answers. If the answers are: I'm not able, I'm not smart enough. I'm not good enough. Things never go well for me. I [00:18:00] can't do this. This is too overwhelming. I'll never be able to never, never, no, no.
Can't can't.
Challenge that.
If you walk away from this episode with anything, I hope it is that you learn to challenge those beliefs. So that you can build a flexible mindset when it comes to your business so that when you see a challenge, you see it as an opportunity to be the one person who rises to that challenge and finds a corner in the market that nobody else even saw because you were ready to be flexible with your mindset.
